Tuesday, January 6, 2009: Randall Williams and Stryngs

Randall Williams at Cafe Veritas
Randall Williams at Cafe Veritas

Randall Williams is a polymath. He is a world traveler. A sailor. A teacher. A classically voice trained baritone. A citizen of the world. A storyteller. A friend. A guitarist (with and without capos, whole and partial). A newly settled resident of Columbus, Ohio. A writer and published author. A singer/songwriter.

And he’s bringing us an evening of magic. Music and tales to transport us around the world, food for thought and humor, all founded on Randall’s positive energy and deep love of people. Randall has an amazing voice to listen to, smooth and full, with perfect control from his classical training. Listening to him play guitar, you will find yourself looking for the rest of the band, but your eyes will confirm that Randall is the only one playing.

But there is more to this evening!

A unique acoustic duo from the UK, Stryngs, will be opening the show. Stryngs, as a duo, is Strings singing hauntingly beautiful vocals and Martin Giles on guitar filling out the musical tapestry of their music. Stryngs sound is hard to capture in words. Lyrics like poetry seamlessly matched with rhythm and melody create a warm cocoon of sound. Listen closely – these gentle sounds are telling tales of emotion and passion, some wistful and longing but always seeking love and happiness.

Please join us for this wonderful show! Tell all your friends, too.

Saturday, December 20, 2008, Kelly’s Lot Acoustic Duo

Kelly Zirbes and Perry Robertson

Based in Los Angeles, California, Kelly’s Lot Acoustic Duo is making a holiday stop in Las Cruces to warm up the Saturday before Christmas! Kelly’s Lot was honored with the “Best Blues Band” award by Rock City News and named one of the Top 13 bands in the U.S. by Independent Songwriter Magazine.

Kelly Zirbes and Perry Robertson as Kelly’s Lot Acoustic, “combine blues and folk, along with some genuine bar room rock, to come up with a sound that is lively and wild, while also honest and sincere. Kelly and Perry put their heart and soul into every song.

Kelly is an alto, singing with a range close to Natalie Merchant and with the conviction of Marva Wright. Perry Robertson is a human metronome. That’s all there is to it. He plays the rhythm guitar as if he had a metronome surgically implanted into the wrist of his right hand,” wrote musician Scott Detweiler for http://www.nohoartsdistrict.com.

From the tour host of Kelly’s Lot Acoustic in Belgium:
“Was Kelly’s Lot Trio strong enough to bring the spirit of blues and confront their new audience ?

No need to wait for the last show to notice how the magic of Kelly’s Lot works. With an incredible energy and a powerful voice, Kelly Z draws the attention of the crowd and takes them for a ride on the highways of rock and blues. During an hour or two , Perry Robertson gave the perfect rhythm with his guitar and lifted Kelly up to find and show the best emotion on each song.”

Besides producing great music both as Kelly’s Lot Acoustic and with her full band, Kelly’s Lot, Kelly is an advocate for Hepatatis C awareness. Kelly’s Lot has played for countless benefits and Kelly started the Hep C Postcard campaign and began building a coalition of musicians and street teams to help her raise awareness on a larger scale.

Cancelled: Tuesday, October 21, 2008: Rachel Sedacca “Patience Pays” Tour

Rachel Sedacca
Rachel Sedacca

We have had to cancel the show due to Rachel suffering a broken ankle on October 14th. We will be rescheduling when she is in the area again. Please wish her well!

Rachel Sedacca is a singer/songwriter from Ventura County, California. She is coming to Las Alturas House Concerts as part of her 2008 Patience Pays Tour (more about that in a minute). Rachel’s diverse repertoire includes her Americana flavored originals, as well as some favorites that she says, “need to be sung”, including tunes from a variety of artists, including Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Jimi Hendrix, Alison Krause, Dolly Parton, Paul Simon, Gillian Welch and others.. Inspired by the Janis of all trades style of Bonnie Raitt as well as the sounds of Lucinda Williams and Sheryl Crow, Rachel points to years of Grateful Dead shows steeping her in an eclectic musical tea, appreciation for the fusing of genres and the ways of the road. That big smile in her pictures reflects the energy and joie de vivre at the core of her being.

On the road, Rachel is home away from home in her 1971 converted school bus “Patience”, complete with kitchen, restroom and her welcoming master bedroom that boasts her comfortable mattress from home. “This is what keeps my feet on the ground”, she says. Rachel toured 5,600 miles over 7 weeks in 2006. The “Patience Pays” tour will take her in a big loop from home through through California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and home again.

Rachel has two albums out and was a first place winner in the American Songwriter Lyric Contest. Now you can hear her in person, live in the living room. We will have a wonderful time with great songs from a lovely songstress. In Rachel’s words as we were arranging the date, “Yay! Let’s go for it! The most important thing to me is that I have a great trip! …This is gonna work out perfect!”

Check out Rachel’s music online at these sites. Then make a reservation and put the date on your calendar to come join us! See you soon!
